Scuba
diving and Snorkelling
The clear clean waters, and white sandy beaches on Inishbofin provide
some of the best scuba diving and snorkelling Ireland has to offer.
Likewise there are many safe beaches for swimming enthusiasts.
Fishing
Fishing trips in charter boats and even traditional island currachs
can be arranged. Local catches in the Atlantic waters range from herring,
mackerel and plaice to the occasional tuna. Gourmet Picnic baskets
will be provided for all excursions – just in case you don’t
fancy cooking your own catch! Smoking of fish can also be organised
for anyone who wants to take their catch home.
Cycling
Bicycle hire can easily be arranged. There is not much traffic on
Inishbofin, only a few cars belonging to islanders, so it is an
easy and safe island to navigate by bicycle. The undulating landscape
of gentle hills is suitable for all abilities.
Walking
There are several interesting walks to navigate around the island,
taking in different points of interest from the historical such
as Cromwell’s Castle, to the natural such as protected bird
and plant life and the local seal colony. Maps are provided free
of charge to all guests and guided walks can be arranged upon request.
Boating
Boat trips can be arranged to neighbouring islands such as Inishark,
abandoned in the 1960’s with remains of dwelling houses still
visible, great fishing and a large seal colony, or to Inishturk,
the nearest inhabited island.
Horse Riding
From Cleggan Riding Centre a variety of excursions are available,
ranging from one hour treks to Cleggan Beach, to three hour treks
to Omey Island as well as day long treks. All abilities are catered
for, with lessons included and up to three guides accompanying each
group, and all hats and boots are provided. |
